Rosie Perez
Rosie Perez, born Rosa Maria Perez on September 6, 1964, is an American choreographer and actress. Her breakthrough role as Tina in Do the Right Thing (1989) was followed by White Men Can't jump (1992). Perez's performance in Fearless (1993) was rewarded with nominations for the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress along with other honors. It Could Happen to You (1994), The Road to El Dorado ((2000), Pineapple Express (2008) and Birds of Prey (2010) are her leading role in movies.
Perez earned three Primetime Emmy Award nominations for In Living Color (1990-1994) and another Emmy nomination for her work in The Flight Attendant (2020-present). Perez has been in Broadway stage plays like The Ritz and Frankie, Johnny in the Clair de Lune and Fish in the Dark. In the 18th season of the show she also was a cohost of ABC's talkshow The View.
Childhood and early life
Perez was born on September 6 1964, in the Bushwick neighborhood of Brooklyn, New York City in the family of Lydia Perez and Ismael Serrano who was a seaman in the merchant marine. [3][4][5] Her mother Lydia (nee Fontanez y Reyes) was born on 13 October 1939, in Humacao, Puerto Rico. Her father came from Aguadilla in Puerto Rico. Arturo Perez, her mother's husband, was twenty years older than Rosie. After having an affair with Serrano her mother was already five children. Perez was born at the now-closed Greenpoint Hospital in the Greenpoint neighborhood of Brooklyn.
Perez is among the ten kids that her mother gave birth to. Rosie and her siblings grew-up in Bushwick at the time that their mother was held in jail. The mother of her child was born to her first child while she was in jail. She was for a time raised by an aunt and later, along with her siblings, went through group homes and foster care. They were often divided. Then she was moved to a group foster home and lived in foster care in New York and Peekskill until age eight. She was considered legally a ward by the State of New York from age 12 from the age of 12. Her aunt and her mother regularly visited her, as did her father tried unsuccessfully to take custody of her.
